 Gin tonic
Le gin tonic (également surnommé « gin to’ » ou « G&T ») compte parmi les plus vieux cocktails au monde. Pour remonter à ses origines, il faut en effet se rendre dans les bars de l’Inde coloniale, où militaires et colons britanniques se rafraîchissaient au tout début du XIXème siècle. Le gin avait été ajouté au tonique afin d’adoucir le goût amer de la quinine, consommée alors pour ses vertus digestives et pour lutter contre la malaria. Aujourd’hui, loin de ces considérations médicales, le gin tonic reste l’une des boissons alcoolisées les plus prisées, qui donne lieu à de nombreuses variantes (voir Astuces en fin de recette). Voici une recette de base très simple et rapide, qui ne nécessite pas d’utiliser un shaker.

  3. Mettez les glaçons dans des verres type tumbler. Versez équitablement le gin dans chaque verre (4 cl par personne), puis ajoutez le tonic (8 cl par personne).
  4. ÉTAPE 2
  5. Décorez les verres avec une tranche de citron et une branche de romarin, si vous le souhaitez. Servez immédiatement.
Notes

ASTUCES Certains gins recommandent l’ajout d’une rondelle de concombre dans chaque verre. Si la forme de verre la plus souvent utilisée pour servir le Gin tonic est une forme simple de verre droit plus ou moins haut, une nouvelle tendance consiste à servir ce cocktail dans des verres à pied avec une paraison plutôt ronde.
